  • This is the temple of Sri Sri Iswari Parbati Mata Debi Thakurani, also known as Nalhateswari Mandir. It is one of the Fifty one Shakti Peeth. According to some Tantric legend the 'Nali" or neck of Sati had fallen at this place and some others say that 'Lalat' or forehead of Sati fell here. 'Lalat' later due to twist of tongue was converted to Nalhat and thereby the name of the place has become Nalhati. According to known history this portion of land was within the Pargana Kumar Pratap, as earlier the states were divided into Parganas as compared to Districts of present day.Pargana Kumar Pratap used to be part of Zemindari of the famed Rani Bhabani, who was famous for her charitable and religious deeds. After a number of generations from Rani Bhabani, the zemindary estate fell into bad times and the Pargana Kumar Pratap was sold off in auction. The purchaser was Raja Udmanta Sinha of Nashipur in District-Murshidabad about 220 years ago. Rani Bhabani had built a small temple over the peeth of Sri Sri Parbati Mata, later on on or about the 1890s Maharaja Ranajit Singha of Nashipur built the temple and Dharamshala as we see it today. Like all Shakti Peeths, this mandir has an adjoining Shiv Mandir. Here the Shiv is known as Jogesh Bhairab. The Maharaja of Nashipur dedicated large tracts of land for the Seva-Puja of Sri Sri Parbati Mata. The descendents of Maharaja Ranajit Sinha down the line of the Nashipur Raj Estate are Raja Bhupendra Narayan Sinha Bahadur - Raja Ranendra Narayan Sinha Bahadur - Ranjoy Sinha. Ranjoy Sinha is the present Sebait of Sri Sri Iswari Parbati Mata. He has constituted a committee of local citizens of Nalhati, who look after the day to day affairs of the Mandir.
