Until mid 60's it used to be brick kiln operated by Diwan Chand Babu Ram, the uncle nephew team. When they ran out of usable land (and could not get neighboring land as it was under Waqf board ownership), they got the land filled and sold it at very cheap rates, some to their daily wage earners. I think the colony was named after one of the contractor's (Sh Gopi Ram's) father. The temple in teh colony was initially operated by priest from Hathi Khana Mandir.
