Barsul is a village on the bank of river Damodar.It is enriched with cultured and educated society. Barsul C.D.P. High school, one P.T.T.I.,one Hospital, Saktigarh girls high school(at Barsul),BSNL Exchange,BDO office, one Post Office. More than ten primary school. The Saktighar textile is also situated here which provided many peoples their earnings.A bus-stand inaugurated in this year near BSNL exchange.

  • I learnt that my great grandfather by the name of Sukhdeep Rakhal and two brothers came from Barsul about 1867 to work as Indentured labourers on the Island of St. Vincent in the West Indies. A relative who has passed on said that the brothers travelled on the Hooghly River to board a vessel at Kolkata. Looking at the location of Barsul I assume they would have travelled along the Damodar River which connects to the Hooghly. I am anxious to discover if that surname (Rakhal) still exists in Barsul.
