Kolej Yayasan Saad Melaka (KYSM)

Founded by Tan Sri Halim Saad in 1995, KYS was established to accommodate secondary school students from all walks of life. It is a private boarding school that acccepts students at Form 1 and Form 4 level. Students have to go through vigorous selection processes before being accepted. As the case in all fully boarding schools, scoring 5As in the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) is the minimum requirement. The first step is by applying using the KYS special application form which is available online. Bright students are then selected based on the consistency of their results from Year 2 to Year 6. Out of more than 6000 yearly applicants, only about 2000 will be selected to sit for a written Entrance Examination at 20 centres all over the country. Out of this 2000 hopefuls, only about 200 will be shortlisted for another round of selection known as the Residential Student Selection Process. This will take place at the KYS college grounds. Participants will be further scrutinized by way of personal interviews, IQ test, personality test, aptitude test, physical test, health and medical checkups, group presentation, stage performance etc. There is also a compulsory 2.4 kilometre run. Out of this 200 finalists, only 60 (36 boys and 24 girls) will eventually find their way into KYS for any academic year. KYS' 131 acres houses top class facilities which includes a Multi Purpose Hall (Great Hall), an amphiteatre, surau, sewing room, AV room, cafeteria, dining hall, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a 300m swimming pool as well as a synthetic track. Dedicated teachers and hardworking support staff makes it a conducive environment for overall development of the students, which explains the excellent results obtained every year in both PMR and SPM. The KYS academic results are the best in the country, even surpassing the most premier SBPs the likes of MCKK and TKC, and also all the SMSes, MRSMs and SMKAs. The school is also renowned for its rugby team known as KYS Rammers, netball team and an excellent orchestra which performed for various dignitaries including both current and previous Malaysian Prime Ministers. It also holds an Annual Programme with the Malay College Kuala Kangsar known as the KYS-MCKK Programme as well as an Annual Rugby Match with MCKK's Thailand counterpart, sparring partner and arch rivals i.e. the Vajiravudh College, Bangkok. Centre of Excellence as its motto proudly stands, KYS owes its existence and continued excellence to more than a few MCKK Old Boys or better known as MCOBA members as its Founder and Chairman, its Board of Governor Members and even its incumbent Principal.
