The old building of the social care center Jelgava was built in 1900 as a children's shelter Ozoli. After the Second World War, until 1970, there was a nursing home for the elderly, later reconstruction work began, and a new building was added to the old building. In 1974, the nursing home was transformed into a psychoneurological nursing home and acquired the name Jelgava. In 1997, the psychoneurological nursing home was transformed into the Specialized State Social Care Center Jelgava. In 2004, the institution was renamed the Social Care Center Jelgava.

As of January 1, 2010, the State Social Care Center Zemgale under the Ministry of Welfare is established, which also includes the Social Care Center Jelgava and it becomes the branch of the State Social Care Center Zemgale Jelgava. Groups I and II disabled from the age of 18 with severe mental disorders live in the Jelgava branch of the social care center Zemgale.
