Pen Ryn Mansion dates to 1744. In 1893, Lucy Wharton Drexel, with the banking wealth of her family, purchased Pen Ryn and expanded the mansion by adding an art gallery, library, servant quarters, and carriage house. The name "Pen Ryn" may have been taken from the Welsh "Penrhyn" meaning "headland" or "promotory."
In the late 1980s, the Pen Ryn Estate was privately purchased and restored. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Pen Ryn offers facilities for private events.
