Kithore lies on the road running from Meerut to Garhmukteshwar, 28 km south-east of the former. The Anupshahr branch of the Ganga canal is the chief source of irrigation. Sugar-cane and tobacco are the main commercial crops grown here. There is a legend behind the place name. The original name of the place was Krishnapuri. Once a king by name Kamud Singh was robbed by the people of the place when he was on his way to Garhmukteshwar to have a dip in the Ganges. He attacked and defeated them and named the place Kuthaur, meaning 'an evil place.' The name struck and was later changed to Kithore.
