Time Team Excavation Site Bath (Bath)

You don’t get to dig this kind of place very often. Welcome to the Royal Crescent in Bath, at the very centre of a Roman mystery. Strange scorch marks have been appearing on the grass here, which some local archaeologists think indicate a Roman building.
But the really interesting stuff is round the back of the crescent.

When the locals built a church here a 130 years ago, they discovered Roman sarcophagi and since then loads of votive offerings have turned up. So what was going on here, was this simply a family burial plot, or could it have been the place where the great and the good of Roman Bath were buried?

Time Team have been given the rare opportunity to try and find out what was going on here at the west end Roman Bath. And as usual, we’ve got just three days to do it.
