Hi, no I haven’t joined up. I’m here with Time Team on Salisbury Plain. Which apart from being the army’s largest training ground is one of Europe’s best preserved and most extensive areas of undisturbed archaeology. It’s vast, over 38,000 hectares of empty landscape, that’s the size of the Isle of Wight.

All given over to military maneuvers and amazing archaeology. What we’ve heard is that buried around here, there could be Iron Age houses and possibly a Roman villa. But there are real problems when you’ve got an army rumbling over archaeological remains. And right at the centre of this conflict is Beach’s Barn.

This ploughed field may not look much, but geophys tell us it’s stuffed full of archaeology. By working with the Green Howards, we’re hoping to protect this site so they’ll have to dig their hole somewhere else. We’ve got just three days to make our case for saving Beach’s Barn.
