Filey Lifeboat Station is situated in one of the East Yorkshire coasts most picturesque bays, bordered to the South by Flamborough Head and to the North by Filey Brig, a spit of rock that juts a mile out into the sea, at the end of the brig is a very unpredictable tide race that can make the sea very rough, even on the finest of summer days, having 5 miles of slowly sloping beach of smooth hard sand makes the bay a magnet for sailors, fisherman and all other varieties of waterborne activities.
