The biggest forest in Prague.
In the Middle Ages was the wide area of the today Vidrholec forest a source of the fear, because there were hiding feared gangs of bandits and exiles, who were waiting for their prey in the main trade way Prague - Kolin. It was later succumbed to contemporary forest landscape alteration and under the influence of the urban phenomenon has disintegrated to individual hedgerows, which borders the farm buildings, fields and meadows.
The forest character was radically changed with the advent of the Thirty Years War and the landscape of the forest changed to bush and wilderness forest, plenty villages and grounds was ruined. After a long time the place was inhabited again and was turned into a forest, which grow there in the Middle Ages. Later, in 1876 was decided to settle a part of the forest by Vaclav Klan into the unspoiled nature, which is today a popular site.
The Natural Park "Klanovice - Cihadla" has been spreading over an area 908 hectares and consists of several sites, which themselves constitutes separate natural organisms and offers a wealth of diverse landscape types, forest corners, sunken pools, meadows, ponds and numerous forest streams.
Swamps and wetlands hosts diverse types of newts and frogs. Through sunny meadows here and there has been rustling the lizard or rarely viper. You can also hit the traditional representative of forest animals, wild boar, deer or fox.
You can wander through forest sweetened by the marked nature trails, which highlight the tremendous reserve and try to map the remains of defunct villages, swallowed up by forest. In close vicinity is a Natural park "Klánovice Xaverov Grove". The grove is a system of ponds, which is a popular resting place not only for humans, but also for other animals and migratory birds.
The Vidrholec is a place of calm that contrasting to its surroundings and even though it was not maintained its medieval appearance, and it is still hiding some remembrance at secrets about gangs of medieval bandits.
