CAVE HILL

Cave Hill is a cliff made from Tertiary (60 Ma old) basalt from nearby volcanoes not unlike Hawaii type. On top of cliffs is a Celtic Fort known as Matudan Mc Cue's fort (Mc Cue is son of Cue or son of a Hound as in Cu hulainn or hound of a blacksmith.) Other wise known as Matudan Mc Hugh's ( Gael:fire) fort or Ben Madigan. Mc Hugh is Gaelic and Gaels were not in Ireland until Agricola displaced them from Iberia c 150 AD.
What is interesting about the Cave Hill affectionately known as Napoleon's nose (when viewed sideways)was previously known as a sleeping giant. This giant of folklore inspired a Church of Ireland Minister Dean Swift to write Gulliver's travels.
