León has fine examples of Spanish Colonial architecture, including the grand Cathedral of the Assumption, built from 1706 to 1740, with two towers added in 1746 and 1779.

Both Leon and Granada were former Capitals of Nicaragua. The current capital, Managua, was made the current capital as a middle ground to encourage the two battling cities to make peace (clearly, they have). It is also possible to go "volcano boarding" in Leon, through the Bigfoot Youth Hostel. | ||||
