The Carrasco Hotel was opened in 1921 and its magnificent building, surrounded by gardens and Carrara sculptures became a point of meeting and celebration. It is placed on the coast of the Rio de la Plata and it included a big party hall, a large dining room and open and close terraces. As far as its construction is regarded, the hotel is a piece of its time, with important symbolic values. It has also an enormous architectonic value, based upon a project of the French architects Dunant and Mallet with the later collaboration of the Uruguayan architect Felipe Elena.
In 2009 a consortium led by Spanish gaming group Codere was awarded a license to manage the Hotel. The consortium spent some $60 million to refurbish the 200-room hotel and add a casino over the next two years.
