There is a tunnel connecting the São Bento Monastery and this church.
It is told, that once upon a time was a great drought in Olinda. A bull grazing there, found water. For the suffering population this source was a miracle, which helped to supply Olinda with water. Before, in 1631 there was a jewish fort. 1765 was built a small chapel and 1862 the Church of the Miracles "Igreja dos Milagres", which is one of the most simplest of Olinda.

Conta-se que houve uma grande seca e um boi pastando nas proximidades, onde antes era uma espécie de mangue, encontrou água que lhe saciou a sede. Assinalando o local, colocaram uma cruz no ano de 1850 e junto construíram uma capelinha passando o local a ser chamado de Santa Cruz dos Milagres. Dizem que em 1631 no local havia um forte judaico, e em 1765 ali teria sido construída a pequena capela. Em 1862 a capela foi substituída pela atual igreja. | ||||
