Assagao is one of the most silent and quietest villages of North Goa in Bardez. Incidentally Assagao has been designated as a "heritage village". Most of the houses are independent and resemble the portuguese villas. Off late many people have sold their ancestral properties and have lost their identity and tag with their ancestral homes, which is a pity. Most of the foreigners like to come and stay here. A reasonably good hotel is coming up just near Animal Rescue. Lot of people from all over Goa come to the International Animal Rescue for treating their pets, specially dogs. There are certain celebrities who have made Assagao their abode. The famous Pallotine Institute of Religion and Phylosophy is also situated in Assagao. Assagao is also home to the Goa based famous photo journalist Joel D'Souza. The people of Assagao are amiable and friendly.
