The Sweeny refinery, located in Old Ocean, Texas, 65 miles southwest of Houston, has a crude oil processing capacity of 247 MBD. The refinery processes mainly heavy, high-sulfur crude oil, but also processes light, low-sulfur crude oil. The refinery primarily receives crude oil through wholly and jointly owned terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport, Texas. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, such as gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, home heating oil and petroleum (fuel) coke. Refined products are distributed throughout the Midwest and southeastern United States by pipeline, barge and rail car.

ConocoPhillips has a 50 percent interest in Merey Sweeny, L.P., a limited partnership that owns a 65 MBD delayed coker and related facilities at the Sweeny refinery. Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), which owns the remaining 50 percent interest, supplies the refinery with Venezuelan crude oil. ConocoPhillips is the operating partner.
