Sacred Gate and Sacred Way to Eleusis (Athens - Piraeus metropolitan area)

The ruins (little more than a few stones) of the gateway through which would pass the participants in the annual procession to receive the mysteries at Eleusis. The site still preserves the path of the ancient Sacred Way, which leads past the private funeral monuments in the kerameikos before disappearing beneath modern Piraeus Street. --grecodan
