Former Amarillo Air Force Base and B-52 base. Air Force base closed December 31, 1968.

Also formerly Amarillo Air Force Base. Base admin area is just to the east of the airport.

These runways were originally built of B-52 bombers and are much thicker than normal airport runways.

They are also HEATED. During snowstorms, airports for hundreds of miles would be closed, but Amarillo was always open. :-D
