Grand Prix of Tampa Circuit (IMSA)The Florida State Fairgrounds were the site of three IMSA races from 1988 to 1990. The first was held in 1988, and called the "World Challenge of Tampa", which pitted IMSA GTP cars against the FIA Group C sports-cars, in a non-championship, end-of-year event for both series.
Although it boasted some of the best IMSA cars (Electomotive Nissan GTX, TWR Jaguar XJR-9, and a few Porsche 962s), there were very few entries from the Group C class (a BPR Porsche 962 was the most notable entry). The race continued as the IMSA Grand Prix of Tampa in 1989 and 1990, but it did not return after a lack of spectator support. » www.silhouet.com/motorsport/tracks/tampa.html This article is protected.
