Opened in the sixties, now under threat as Basildon Council continue their plans for a 'sporting village' to be built 'in readiness for the 2012 Olympics'.
This threatens many well used public sports and leisure facilities in the area with closure/demolition and also would mean building on Gloucester Park which would be in breach, apparently, of a covenant signed by the Council decades ago.
