This interesting historical building is probably one of the oldest houses of entertainment in the country. Rich in timber, this old house has main posts running from the basement to the roof. The large room on the first floor was known as the ball room and for many years as the only assembly room in the town where auctions and public meetings could be held. The vaulted crypt is quite unique as an inn cellar and was probably built in the 12th or earls 13th century. Tradition connects the Inn by a subterraneous passage with the Old Parsonage. The entrance to this passage has been traced in recent years and partly uncovered. There is every probability that in Medieval Times the Lamb was associated with the Church and Parsonage. Through the centuries many a weary wayfarer has been cheered by the hospitality at this old hostelry. The present day visitor still receives a warm welcome and, enticed by the friendly atmosphere and excellent fare, invariably returns. http://www.thelamb-eastbourne.co.uk
