Barangay: Dallangayan Este
City: San Fernando City
Province: La Union
History:
Before the Spaniards came to the Philippines, a benevolent, wise and loving chieftain by the name Dal Langayan and his pretty wife Dayawen lived and owned this whole area of land. Their land was bounded forest along the west, to the north and to the east. Large part of their piece of land was planted with Dallang, a big specie of gabi which is rich in protein and known for its delicious taste which eventually made this place popular. Before they died, they summoned their people to their residence and right there decreed that as a token of their faithfulness and trustworthiness, they voluntarily donated to each family the lot occupied by their house in addition to the parcel of land they were tilling. For the overseer, his additional share was half of the house and lot of the couple for being so devoted in the implementation of rules and policies entrusted to him.
Time passed by and Spaniards landed in our country. Their arrival coincided with the death of the couple. Days later, this purok or barangay was required to be officially registered by the Spaniards. The overseer therefore, who was picked as Cabesa de Barangay with the occurrence of everyone registered their barangay as Dallangayan Este as a sort of reverence and memory of their Chieftain Dal Langayan and their famous plant “Dallang”.
