The 7th century Ranganatha Cave temple is carved into a hill at Singavaram, a 3 Kms. north of Gingee on Gingee-Vadapalai Road. The original Pallava shrine consists of an pillared hall and an image of Vishnu Anantasayini cut into the rock. The Nayakas and Rajputs who patronized this temple are responsible for later structural additions. The Nayaka mandapa seen in this picture is at the top of the hill.

The temple of Lord Ranganathar, the tutelary god of Raja Desingh is on a hill top. It is a good specimen of south Indian type of rock – cut shrine. The idol of Lord Ranganatha, in a reclining posture, measures 24 ft, in length which together with the inner sanctorum, is carved out of a single rock. It is said to be bigger than that of the idol in Srirangam.
