Built as part of the enlargement of the Erie Canal in the 1850's, the Richmond (aka Montezuma) Aqueduct ran for 894ft and carried the Erie Canal over the Seneca River from 1856 to 1917. Abandoned in 1917 and partially demolished thereafter to make way for the present-day New York State Barge Canal, today only the stone supports and filled right-of-way of the old Canal reach remain.
