Medieval / Middle Ages, motte-and-bailey castle, earthwork (archaeology)
This was a medieval earthwork motte and bailey fortress. In World War II it was used as an air raid shelter. The motte which is flat-topped is partly surrounded by a wide ditch and counterscarp bank. Traces of the bailey platform can be found in the south-west.
