Newark Castle

United Kingdom / England / Newark-on-Trent /

First a Saxon fortified manor house, and then an earthwork motte and bailey fortress in 1073. Bishop Alexander the Magnificent rebuilt the castle around 1123-33 and the castle underwent changes again in the late 13th century. Subsequent additions turned it into more of a palace.
Sleighted during the Civil War, only parts of the castle now remain.
