Like George Washington, (5th U.S. President) James Monroe had ties to Fredericksburg. He practiced law here in the late 1780s when he was in his early 30s. His old law office has been converted into a museum and library. Among the things found here: a portait by Rembrandt Peale and one depicting his presidential inauguration by an anonymous artist, Spanish-made dueling pistols, chairs, tables, and a bed which belonged to Monroe, as well as personal furniture which Monroe purchased in Paris and used at the White House.

The James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library in Fredericksburg is a tribute the fifth president of the United States. On display at the museum are some of his personal possessions, furniture, documents, photos, and more.
