WFUBMC is a comprehensive hospital that is nationally ranked for its level of care in several areas. Commonly referred to as "Baptist Hospital", WFUBMC has one of the few Level 1 Trauma Centers in the State of North Carolina.

It is the largest employer in Winston-Salem and is known for its extensive cancer research programs, Brenner's Children Hospital and the Wake Forest School of Medicine.
