Like several other small lakes in the area, Woodstock Lake was created in the early 1960s as a borrow pit during construction of Interstate Highway 64. Woodstock Lake is unique in that it is connected by a channel to the Elizabeth River, allowing direct access to other waterways of the region. This small lake is also the home or migration stopover for a rather wide variety of waterfowl.
