In pre-Independent India, this Station connected India and Bangladesh. This station was disfunctional for more than a decade,before Mamta Banerjee's intervention. so, the then railway minister( Miss Banerjee) reopened it. it lies once again abandonned now. Only a reservation Center of the Indian railways is functional on its precincts.
