AMR was founded in the 1970's as Amelia Kart Track by Russell and Shirley Apperson, and Shirley's son Marc Chimento. As soon as they were told of the back yard kart track, all three headed down Route 360 to Amelia County. Seeing the track on Mr. McMillian's property, they knew what had to be done. The family was operating two other tracks at that time. One more would only triple the fun!
Eventually, all the attention was focused on Amelia Kart Track. Russel passed away a few years later and Marc gave up racing to take over promotions. Marc wanted more than a "go-kart track." He wanted the best! A top-notch facility with a professional staff. He wanted his organization to be known as the NASCAR of karting, with the focus on family. With support from his family, friends, sponsors and numerous volunteers, he was able to turn a back woods dirt track into the race track it's become.
