Landing Threshold For Runway 27 (San Diego)


Because of terrain and a parking structure located directly in the path of incoming planes, landing aircraft cannot use all 9,001 feet of the runway. Instead, the 27 marking on the runway indicates the useable portion of the runway to pilots landing planes.

Planes taking off are able to use the entire full length of the runway.

Some number of years ago, I had learned, that because of the steep rate of descent, necessary to land on Rwy 27, pilots were required to have a special writer on their license before they can land here.
