Progressive Field (Cleveland, Ohio)

Formerly Jacob's Field or "The Jake" (named after the Jacobs brothers), it is the home of Major League Baseball's Cleveland Guardians of the American League. Jacobs Field was one of the contributing factors to the revitalization of downtown Cleveland, bringing people and business to the downtown. When it opened in 1994, it replaced Cleveland Municipal Stadium, a huge old barn of a structure that also was home field to the NFL's Cleveland Browns. Municipal stadium's one plus was that it was huge; but it was a poor place to watch either baseball or football. Progressive Field and Cleveland Browns Stadium are fan-friendly alternatives and are regularly sold out.

Many Cleveland baseball fans are upset about the name change. It was announced on 11 January, 2008, and the signage was removed on the 18th.

  • Go Tribe!
  • Man, I hate corporate naming of stadiums. Apparently even Wrigley Field is up for grabs. Can't anything be authentic or real in MLB??
  • Wrigley field was the first ballpark to have a corporate name...
  • ....of a corporate name as it's neighbor Quicken Loans Arena, but it'll always be Jacobs field to me.
