This statue of George IV by Sir Thomas Chantry was erected in the 1840s. George IV who reigned from 1762 to 1830 was probably best known for his lavish lifestyle and estrangement from his wife, Caroline of Brunswick, whom he refused to be allowed crowned as queen.
