  • Great Capt. and crew while serving aboard the Ready Eddie from November 1970 thru March 1972. Bob (RJ) Hillman
  • Never got to serve on her, was assigned to report onboard, but when I got to Pearl Harbor, my orders got changed, too bad.
  • 1975 - 1978 The Ready Eddie was the best riding tin can I was ever on and the one I enjoyed serving on the most. Glad that she is still in the islands and not cut up somewhere in a foreign country. RIP Ready Eddie.
  • wAS ON HER FROM 78-80 BEST SHIP I SERVED ON HANDS DOWN.
  • I served on her from 1967 to 1969 as leading Electronics technician. We made several tours to Viet Nam and an R and R tour down to Australia and New Zealand. I had some good friends on the ship , and wish I could see them again, but some of them must be passed away.
  • 1972-1975 especially liked testing the motor whale boat The captain realized the non commissioned gig and boat were an ideal place for the crew to have a couple beers and have a break from combat... I once talked a nondrinker to help test and give me his two beers... Well, chugging 4 beers while the motor whale boat is going up and down was a test of my fortitude... The boat and I survived the test!
  • Harry, I was one of the guys who downed 4 beers in what seemed like 4 minutes, Then I had to stand a 4 hour watch as Throttle man in forward engine room , it was a long watch. Harry I left the ship in June of 74 before while we we were still deployed on a wespac cruise. I did not get a chance to get the itinerary of the 73-74 wespac. if you have one could you or someone else that may read this e-mail a copy to me? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Douglas Russo, MM2 ,71-74 russo@oakland.edu
