Residential and Industrial district of caloocan
historically as Calaanan Dr. Galauran says that "Kalaanan" was derived from the word "laan" meaning "reserved". In other words, the land was reserved for the people of Kalookan. But this is more romantic than factual.
This is the former site of Grace Park Airfield also known as Manila North Airfield It was the first commercial airfield in Manila during American period. Used by the local airline, Philippine Aerial Taxi Company and for light aircraft service to Loakan Airfield (Baguio) and other destinations. The original runway was known as the "old runway" during World War II. It was closed in 1946 and developed into an industrial area.
Grace Park was developed in the 30s by the Philippine Land Improvement Company in partnership with Gregorio Araneta, Inc. It is formed from the part of Kalaanan in the Northwest and Northeast, Sampalukan and Matang Tubig in the Southwest, La Loma in the Southeast. It is named after the daughter of Governor-General Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., Grace Green Roosevelt.
It is said that the Governor-General was fond of staying and visiting the place so it was proposed to name the place after his eldest son. The said resolution was led by Don Toribio Teodoro, the owner of Ang Tibay shoe store.
That's why it became "park" because it was the name of the airports back then. There used to be an airport at Grace Park.
