The Jaysingpur city is situated by Shahu Maharaj (King Shahu) in remembrance of his father. The name of his father was Jaysing, so he given name to this place as Jaysingpur.
Jaysingpur was a forest earlier. Shahu Maharaj situated this place as a market place to compete with Sangli (Sangali is a district as well as a big market). But now a days it has become a residential area. The city is called as 'Most Planned City' in Maharashtra state. Its one of the calm and clean city. It is the second largest city in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.
The city is famous for Tobacco. Its one of the big tobacco markets in India. Also it is famous for 'Bhadang'(a spicy food item).
