The Speakeasy Club, 48 Margaret Street London W1, was a late-night haunt for the music industry from 1966 to the late 1970s. Many bands played here including Arthur Brown, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Mothers Of Invention, Jimi Hendrix, King Crimson, Bob Marley and The Who. According to Record Collector magazine (12/2006) Jimi Hendrix played Wild Thing with the V.I.P.s (later Spooky Tooth) for the first time in the UK in Speakeasy.
