Boroondara is the village area around the local primary school in the suburb of Balwyn Nth. Boroondara was chosen to be the name of the greater municipality area in the mid 1990's. The name was said to be from an aboriginal language - to mean shady place, from the number of trees that grow in the clay loam soil near the Yarra river valley. Huge number of parks, trees and gardens as well as good services and an excellent high school nearby in Balwyn Nth. A great place to raise children.
