  Cuenca is known as the "Home of the Bakers" simply because they make the most delicious and different kinds of breads. Among the popular varieties are "kababayan", "tiping", "pasensiya", "pandesal", "monay", and a lot more. According to Mr. Lusito Chavez, a native of Cuenca, Proprietor of Tinapayan’s and Vice President of the Philippine Federation of Bakers’ Assn., Inc., “Pandesal-making” in the '60s and '70s is the heaven and glory of Cuencano pandesal-bakers who compose 90 percent of the Philippines' bakers," Even former Mayor Comia used to be a pandesal maker himself."

  I agree to casper. My mother hailed from Dalipit East, a small barangay in this town in Batangas. We use to have a bakery and I grew up here and being a baker and owning a bakery is as famous as farming itself.
