The UUP (Ulster Unionist Party), founded in 1905, received the fourth largest portion of votes in the most recent elections in Northern Ireland (2007). Despite this, they are the third largest party in the Stormont assembly, and hold two executive ministerial posts. They once had strong support in east Belfast and in other traditionally unionist areas, however support even here has dwindles in recent years as the party suffered when there came a surge in support for the DUP.
