NPC Malaya Oil-fired Power Plant

SPC Power Corporation has topped the bidding for the operations and management contract of the state-owned Malaya diesel plant in Pililia, Rizal.

Conrad S. Tolentino, Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation vice president, said SPC submitted the lone bid for the 650-megawatt Malaya O&M contract.
The agency earlier set a budget of P555.83 million for the O&M contract, which is valid for one year.

The Malaya power plant was not offered to investors as government plans to connect it to the proposed Batangas-to-Manila or Batman 1 pipeline, which will be put up by 2015, to allow the facility to run on cheaper natural gas.

The power plant serves as a back up generating facility that is used when there is not enough available capacity in the Luzon grid.
