  • It's now called BATAC CITY HALL! Ovious ba, City na kami! Yeah!
  • As I small child, I recall the old PRESIDENCIA, built American Style, which preceded the current Municipal hall. It was beautiful, with a staircase going up to the second floor, where my grandfather Silvestre Morales laid in state before his funeral in June, 1955. There was a small park, with children's play equipment = see saw, a "merry go round" and a small rotunda as well. Early in the morning, a siren would announce the time of the day basically. In the evening, the church bells tolled so we could stop and pray and thank God for our blessings. The jail room was downstairs, next to the small post office. Mr. Rubio and Mr. Morales delivered our mail on bicycles. Had certain people hold some vision, like the Ilocos Sur folks who preserved their presidencias, we would have one as well. Alas, the 'urge" to destroy and build was stronger during certain political regimes. While the old Presidencia had a certain character to it, the new one is a display of what monstrous architecture, lacking the refinement of old days, could do. To a certain degree, the new Presidencia is a display of power, quite apropos for the most current decade. Even the parquet floors that are beginning to buckle up would agree with me that quantity instead of quality prevailed during its construction.
  • I remember the vietnam rose plants and the lush, cushiony bermuda grass. The old kalachuchi trees bloomed perfectly complementing the tropical green leaves. Alas, they have been replaced with the boring, pointy trees, not native to the area. Notwithstanding the nostalgia, the municipal hall has become mainly a utilitarian offering to the masses. Perhaps the new cityhood will bring vibrance to Batac and even maybe some artistic renditions of days gone by.
  • Hi Nona How are you. How is Eureka High School? Happen to be one of the lucky product of Eureka-Class 1963. In addition to your comments about the City Hall. For me it seens that Municipal hall,as well as Batac commercial center, soon be transfer somewhere-my guess going northern part of town.
