The Pillau Fortress, since 1888 also Fort Stiehle (after Gustav von Stiehle), was built in 1626 in Pillau, today Baltiysk. It is a regular pentagon, surrounded by moats and ramparts. However, the external works were constantly exposed to silting. The fortress included the armoury, magazines and arsenals.
