June 18, 1864. William's Kentucky cavalry brigade (CS) was patrolling this section of Powers Ferry Road as Howards IV Corps (US) approached from the vicinity of Crossroads Church to the north. CS troops dug in on the south bank of the creek supported by a section of artillery. After a short, but brisk engagement, elements of IV Corps, supported by XX Corps, forced the Confederates back towards Buckhead. Two Georgia Historical Markers on either side of the bridge commemorate the action.
