This is the former site of The Mound Site DOE facility, which was engaged in nuclear material research during the cold war. It was built in 1948 to continue the work of the Manhattan Project and operated under contract to Monsanto until 1988. It was later run by EG&G MAT.
The DOE site was decommissioned at the end of the cold war, and site cleanup continued through much of the 1990s. The City of Miamisburg supported the site's recent redevelopment into a commercial light industrial and research park.
