The Battle of Moon Sound took place on 17 OCT 1917, between German and Russian naval forces, and three British submarines. The Russians were attempting to retreat their forces from encroaching German units by escaping through Moon Sound from the Gulf of Riga. In the ensuing battle, the Russian battleship "Slava" was damaged by German dreadnoughts and took on too much water to get through the shallow sound, and so had to be scuttled.
