  A bronze bust of Mikhail Lomonosov, founder of the University was placed here in 1876 and remained in the courtyard until the pedestal was damaged during bombing in 1941. Two years later a full-length statue stood as a temporary replacement until 1957 when a seated version of Lomonosov was placed here and the full-length version moved to the Sparrow Hills (then Lenin Hills) campus.
