Constructed from July 1909 through 1914 as a coast defense mortar battery, Battery Hasbrouck mounted eight 12in mortars in groups of four all of which were triangulated to fire onto the approaches to Pearl Harbor. Primarily tasked with defending Pearl Harbor's defensive minefield, the battery remained in operation through 1943 when coastal mortars became obsolete but continued to be used as an observation and fire control position at Fort Kamehameha for the duration of the Second World War.

Following the closure of the fort and its subsequent absorption into Hickam Air Force Base, Battery Hasbrouck saw varied limited use as building 460 before being largely abandoned. The Battery was added to the National Register of Historic Places in June 1984.
